About Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a truly holistic approach to health, combining ancient healing traditions and modern scientific knowledge to address all aspects of an individual: mind, body, and spirit. Naturopathic physicians have tremendous respect for the body’s innate wisdom and healing abilities.

Our work with patients is guided by the six principles of Naturopathic Medicine:

  • First Do No Harm
  • The Healing Power of Nature
  • Treat the Whole Person
  • Identify and Treat the Cause of Disease
  • Doctor As Teacher
  • Prevention

A Naturopathic physician has graduated from a four-year naturopathic program at an accredited naturopathic medical school and also holds a bachelor’s degree. Naturopaths are licensed as primary care physicians in Oregon, allowing us to provide care for the whole family. Our approach to treating disease and supporting optimal health entails the use of nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, massage, lifestyle counseling, and more. While not typically the first approach to treatment, naturopathic physicians can prescribe most medications if the need for one arises. We spend a minimum of one hour with each patient, taking the time to get know you so we may best meet your unique health care needs.

What to Expect from Naturopathic Pediatric Care

Pediatric care with a naturopathic physician entails the holistic approach described above and is further tailored to support the health and wellness of the developing child. Childhood is a time for building foundations, one of which is a foundation of lifelong health.
Katie considers education to be a very important aspect of pediatric care. She takes the time to explain what is happening with each child, whether it be a new stage of growth and development or a complex illness. Listening to parents (and children themselves) is also an important part naturopathic pediatric care. Katie believes parents are the experts regarding the health of their families and she aims to empower them with knowledge and tools.
Children have immense vitality. They thrive when their bodies are nourished with wholesome foods, physical activity, and lots of love! When children become acutely ill with colds and fevers, it is an opportunity for them to strengthen their immune systems. Chronic illnesses in childhood offer opportunity to address the root cause and remove barriers to wellness. Naturopathic care and treatment further enhances the body’s ability to create and maintain optimal health.
Katie sees pediatric patients as young as 2 weeks and her care extends into adolescence. She offers well-child visits, including options for alternative or conventional vaccine schedules. She treats acute and chronic conditions, ranging from common colds and ear infections to eczema, digestive complaints, behavioral issues, and more.

About Naturopathic Midwifery

Naturopathic midwives are naturopathic physicians who have received additional classroom and hands-on training in natural childbirth and maternity care. Naturopathic midwives offer comprehensive care to women throughout the childbearing year. We support moms and their growing babies in natural ways, offering guidance in nutrition and self-care and using natural remedies when needed to treat any discomforts that arise. We are also able to prescribe medications when they are needed. Naturopathic midwives attend births at home and carry all necessary emergency equipment to handle a complication if one should occur.
As a naturopathic midwife and a mother, Katie views pregnancy and childbirth as natural processes in a woman’s life. She holds immense trust and reverence for women and babies as they experience these incredible life transitions. Katie sees birth as a rite of passage into motherhood and believes it to be deeply impacting for women, babies, and entire families. Katie takes the time to truly listen to mothers, learning about their unique needs and choices and how she can best offer care and support. It is her hope that each woman feel safe and fulfilled on her journey into motherhood.
